China: A new view through a lens

After attending a recent film screening of amateur documentary film entitled ‘Brave Father’ held by the Chinese Film Forum UK I decided to buy a book recommended by one of the academics in the discussion that followed the film.

The New Chinese Documentary Film Movement: For the Public Record, edited by Chris Berry, Lu Xinyu, and Lisa Rofel, provides a great incite into how the production of amateur documentaries in China has taken off, and how these films can offer sometimes an alternative view of the China we see in the media.

This post represents really the beginning of my own exploration into this topic, and therefore these are just a couple of suggestions. As I explore this topic further I will post further links.
